The United Methodist Women will celebrate its 150th anniversary Saturday, March 23, at Bennett College. There is a void: lack of pictures, articles, event programs, artifacts and documentation regarding the role of women of African descent while serving in the Central Jurisdiction and before this jurisdiction was organized. If anyone has information about their work in the Women’s Home Missionary Society, Women’s Division of Christian Service, Wesleyan Guild and UMW firsts, please contact Albertina McGirt at 336-855-3024 before Feb. 17.
The district organization is charged to develop a presentation that updates the history and involvement relative to the organization’s work in the Methodist Episcopal church and community, i.e., the Bethlehem Centers. Most information will be submitted to the Western NC Conference and Northern Piedmont (NP) historian for archival purposes after the celebration.
