Supporters of the Dr. Melvin C. Swann Middle School
Starting next school year, students will attend Dr. Melvin C. Swann, Jr. Middle School, formerly known as Charles B. Aycock Middle School.
The Guilford County Board of Education voted 8-1 on January 26, 2017, to rename the school in honor of the late, Dr. Melvin C. Swann Jr., a former Guilford County Schools administrator. He played an important role in the desegregation of the Greensboro school district and the merger of the Guilford, Greensboro, and High Point school systems. He was a faithful member of St. Matthews UMC for many years.
A “Passing of the Baton” Celebration will be held August 19, 2017 to celebrate 95 years of Aycock Middle School and to celebrate the new school name, Swann Middle School.
The Swann family would like to make a donation to help fund the “Passing of the Baton” Celebration, where community leaders, Guilford County School officials, and former staff & students of Aycock Middle School will gather to commemorate this momentous occasion. In addition, the donations collected will assist Guilford County Schools with the cost of athletic uniforms, signage for school grounds, and school spirit wear. The goal is to raise $5,000 for this project.
Please lend your support to this endeavor with a contribution. Make checks payable to Swann Middle School-Rename and mail to:
