While Earth Day is observed annually on April 22, Saint Matthews United Methodist Church will celebrate this year on Sunday, April 27, at both worship services.
The global theme for Earth Day 2025 is Our Power, Our Planet. EARTHDAY.ORG (EDO), the global organizer of Earth Day, is inviting everyone around the world to unite behind renewable energy, and to triple the global generation of clean electricity by 2030.
Renewable energy comes from replenishable sources, like the sun, which do not produce greenhouse gases and do not drive climate change: it is energy that ends our reliance on fossil fuels and the damage they cause to our environment and human health.
This year marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day. Let’s continue to raise our congregation’s awareness of the collective responsibility to care for the creation God has entrusted to us by heeding the call to environmental stewardship as part of God’s call in our own lives—individually and collectively—for lasting change and climate impact.
