Who We Are

The Liturgical Arts Ministry of Saint Matthews United Methodist Church oversees the DayStar Liturgical Dance Ministry, the FirstFruits Drama Ministry, Children’s Handbells, Poetry, Storytelling, and Puppet Ministries that provide artisitc expression during worship and other church programs. Participants, four years old to senior adults are involved in activities and programs that emphasize scripture and biblical principles. The Liturgical Arts Ministry is used to nurture our church members a well as occasionally reach out to others in the community, particularly with the Dance, Drama, and Poetry ministries.

What We Do
  • Present contemporary or traditional visual interpretations of the scripture during worship services
  • Use artistic expression to capture the essence and significance of seasonal events (i.e. Christmas, Easter, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, National Poetry Month, Church Homecoming, etc.)
  • Infuse the arts so that interested participants can use their talents–whether on stage/camera or backstage–talents come in all forms … in larger drama pieces, we often include singing, instrumentation, and dance to complement the storyline (theme)
