Several important health issues and programs are designated for National Health Awareness emphasis during the month of March. These include National Mental Retardation Awareness, American Red Cross Month, National Colorectal Cancer Awareness, and National Kidney Awareness.
Your Health And Welfare committee strongly recommends that you talk with your doctor and schedule a colonoscopy as necessary. Colorectal cancer is easily treated is detected early. Drink 6 to 8 ounces of water daily and talk with your doctor about ways to protect your kidneys, particularly if you have diabetes. It is estimated that over six thousand Black people are currently awaiting kidney transplant surgery secondary to complications of diabetes mellitus.
Give the Gift of Life by donating a pint of blood to the Red Cross this year. Advocate for people with mental retardation.
Children in grades second through sixth are invited to participate as we embark on a weekly Thursday evening science awareness program presented by the Family Enrichment Board.
Robotics and recycling are just two of the important science subjects we will be discussing during the course of the program. The program will operate from 5:30 – 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall with volunteers from the church serving as facilitators. Parents are encouraged to participate. Refreshments will be served.
The first class will be on Thursday, March 5, 2015. Please let us know your interest in this program by signing the sheet in the north annex room.
On Tuesday, February 24 from 10 am – 12 noon, a group of local experts will be holding an exposition on simplifying your move. You will hear from a senior community representative, real estate agent, financial planner, mortgage expert, attorneys, and an in-home care provider.
There will be food exhibits, and a panel discussion – all FREE!
