The Endowment Scholarship Committee is seeking all 2021 high school graduates to apply for the Saint Matthews Endowed Scholarship. Applications can be obtained from Mrs. Carolyn Burgman by email. All eligible students must be admitted to an accredited four-year college or two-year community college. Additionally, students must be a member of Saint Matthews and are currently active in church programs or activities. All applications must be returned to Mrs. Burgman or Dr. James Sibert by June 13, 2021.
Volunteers are needed to help clean up Greensboro on Saturday, May 1. Members of the Care for Creation (C4C) Ministry from West Market Street UMC will be working along with the Creation Care Ministry at Saint Matthews UMC to pick up litter at Latham Park and Stream North. A volunteer agreement form will be provided closer to May 1.

Applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) are being accepted through Wednesday, March 31. Families may qualify from $300 to $500, depending on their situation and eligibility. Funds are available to assist families with a onetime payment to their energy provider for heating purposes. Applicants can apply online at www.epass.nc.gov or by calling the Guilford County Department of Social Services at 336-641-3000.
The Guilford CARES: Feeding the Community Food Drive launched Feb. 6, and the goal of is to distribute 500 boxes of food biweekly for 10 weeks, totaling 5,000 boxes, from different alternating locations throughout the county. Each box is designed to feed a family of four and will include enough food for two weeks and include meat and fresh produce.

Funding for this program comes from the county’s COVID response initiatives approved by the Guilford County Board of Commissioners during their Dec. 14, 2020, meeting. At the request of Commissioner Carolyn Coleman, the board set aside nearly $300,000 from federal funds received for this initiative to help address food insecurities.
