Crop Walk (Oct. 2)

The 42nd Annual Greater Greensboro Crop Hunger Walk is Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The community-based walk is a fundraising event created to support the mission of Church World Service, a faith-based organization that is transforming communities around the world through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster. Twenty-five percent of funds raised are used to support local hunger fighting efforts. Come walk with us to end hunger one step at a time.

Join SMUMC in the Community (Oct. 1-2)

Join us for the Big Sweep, the annual citywide clean up hosted by Greensboro Beautiful Inc. on Saturday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Volunteers from West Market Street UMC and Saint Matthews UMC will pick up trash/debris at Lake Daniel Park (Josephine Boulevard section and towards downtown). Help keep our waterways, streets and neighborhoods litter free.

Poetry Writing Workshop (Oct. 1)

Use your creative writing skills to share your stories and experiences through the beauty of poetry. The Liturgical Arts Ministry is having a poetry writing workshop for seniors to capture life events in a poem on Saturday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m. until noon. Bring a friend!

2022 Homecoming and Revival (Sept. 18-21)

Saint Matthews UMC will observe its annual Homecoming and Revival services Sept. 18-21. The theme is “Renew Us.”

The Homecoming service will take place Sunday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. Saint Matthews’ pastor, Rev. Rodvegas M. Ingram Sr., will deliver the sermon. A boxed meal will be served immediately following the service.

The Revival services, with guest speaker Rev. Charlie D. Rivens Sr., pastor of The Place Church (Huntersville, North Carolina), will take place Sept. 19-21, at 7 p.m. (Praise and Worship, 6:45 p.m.):

  • Monday, Sept. 19. K.L. Norman and the Ebony Gospel Chorale (Greensboro and vicinity)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 20. Carolyn Hill and the Greensboro Cluster Choir (Greensboro)
  • Wednesday, Sept. 21. The Place Praise Team (Charlotte, North Carolina)

Each member of Saint Matthews is asked to donate $35 as a revival offering.

Annual Labor Day BBQ (Sept. 5)

The annual Labor Day Barbecue will be Monday, Sept. 5, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall parking lot. At this year’s “drive-thru only” event, patrons may choose chopped barbecue (pork, chicken or turkey) or fish with baked beans, coleslaw and a roll. For tickets ($12 each), see any member of United Methodist Men or purchase them at the event. Health Survey (Aug. 31)

You are invited to participate in a health survey on behalf of the Partners in Health and Wholeness Collaborative (PHW)/NC Council on Churches. The survey is intended to help understand our experiences as to best utilize PHW resources and contribute to the health and well-being of our congregation. The deadline to complete the survey is Wednesday, Aug. 31.

Acolyte Training (Aug. 27)

Calling all acolytes! Acolyte training will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 10–11:30 a.m., in the Sanctuary for current acolytes and those interested in serving as an acolyte. Anyone who is at least 10 years old can serve. Please RSVP your intent to attend to Jennifer Lewis (see the Sunday Bulletin for contact information). 

Mini-Dance Workshop (Aug. 6)

Get your move on! A mini-workshop in dance will be conducted for Saint Matthews members, ages 13 and up, on Saturday, Aug. 6, 9 a.m. until noon, with an emphasis on finding music and creating choreography suitable for worship. Joyful July Ice Cream Blast (July 31)

Come enjoy an ice cream treat immediately following the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday, July 31. The Scoop Zone ice cream truck will be in the Fellowship Hall parking lot. The event is free to those who attend the worship service.
