2026 National Day of Prayer (May 7)

Saint Matthews United Methodist Church will provide an opportunity for the congregation and non-members to participate in the National Day of Prayer Service on Thursday, May 7, at 6 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The altar open at 5:15 p.m., for individual prayers, and the service will begin at 6 p.m.

“Glorify God Among the Nations – Seeking Him in All Generations” is the 2026 theme, and the theme verse is 1 Chronicles 16:24 (NASB), “Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.”

America stands at the crossroads of a historic and holy moment in 2026. During our nation’s 250th anniversary, we will also observe the 75th Observance of the National Day of Prayer.

For generations, Americans have sought the Lord in prayer and glorified Him in every season and circumstance. The 2026 National Day of Prayer Theme is a call to stand on this foundation. On Thursday, May 7, millions of people will gather to intercede for neighbor and nation and pray for those who lead, and those in need.

Prayers of repentance and intercession will be lifted up in all 50 states and several U.S. territories through tens of thousands of local prayer gatherings on the National Day of Prayer. In addition, the annual National Broadcast will air on television, radio, websites, social media and streaming services, and will be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET. About the National Day of Prayer: The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775, setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established in our public law an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May
