In 1968, the General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR) organized to hold the new U.M.C. accountable in its commitment to reject the sin of racism. Saint Matthews champions this 54-year effort to value all God’s people and build a vision of the kingdom of God that includes people of every race and culture. Our R-2 ministry will increase congregational understanding that a vital Christian faith values diversity, equity, and inclusiveness utilizing tools and resources available to the world where every possible member of humanity can live, love, and express themselves in freedom and in peace.
Because all forms of oppression are connected, they cannot be dismantled in isolation, and oppressive practices defy Biblical teachings and UMC Social Principles, we work diligently to challenge and equip parishioners to complete the unfinished agenda of dismantling racial discrimination by:
- Championing diversity, equity an inclusion,
- Developing inter-culturally competent teachers, and
- Catalyzing our authentic community which includes but is not limited to issues on;
- Tribal conflicts,
- Gender discrimination,
- Generational bias, and
