Deadline for SMUMC Scholarships (June 8)

The SMUMC Endowment Scholarship Fund was established to provide scholarships for our high school graduating seniors for generations to come. These scholarships are available to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be active members of Saint Matthews UMC, and are currently participating in church programs and/or activities
  • Must show proof of acceptance into a four-year college, community college, or trade school
  • An application must be submitted to the co-chairs by Sunday, June 8

Applications can be obtained from the Scholarship Committee mailbox in the Multipurpose Office. Email the completed application to both Dr. Anessa Burgman and Mrs. Ronica Edgerton (see the Sunday Bulletin for the respective email addresses). For additional information, contact Burgman or Edgerton by phone.

In addition to the Endowment Scholarships, there are Legacy Scholarships available for Endowment Scholarship recipients. A Legacy Scholarship is when a church member donates a minimum of $5,000 and receives the privilege of naming and setting specific criteria for a scholarship. Presently there are four Legacy Scholarships:

  1. Robert Carter Memorial Scholarship (est. 2009)
  2. James E. Sibert Scholarships (est. 2011)
  3. Lewis and Carolyne Burgman Scholarships (est. 2017)
  4. Bowden Scholarships (under development)

All Endowment and Legacy scholarships are administered by the Scholarship Committee and are awarded the fourth Sunday in July.
